The Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, Kumari Selja gave away Dr. Ambedkar National Merit Awards to meritorious students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes who appeared in Secondary and Senior Secondary School Examination - 2013 conducted by State/Central Education Boards/ Councils here today.
Congratulating the Awardees the Minister appreciated the efforts put on by the students and wished them bright future. The Minister also praised the role of their parents in the children’s progress.
The Minister informed that from the information received from 13 boards of 10th Class and 17 boards of 12th Class for the year 2013, 517 meritorious students were found eligible for the Awards.
The Minister Kumari Selja said, “I am extremely delighted to inform that in Class 10th , out of the 26 students who got the highest marks, 18 are girls. Similarly in class 12th, out of the 71 students who got the highest marks, 42 are girls.
“I measure the progress of community by the degree of progress which women had achieved.” quoting Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar , the Minister said that due to the efforts of such meritorious students the dream of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar has become true.
Students should seek inspiration from the life of great personalities like Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Babasaheb’s commitment and devotion towards education.
The future of society and country depends on you. The vision of tomorrow’s India lies in your eyes. Education and knowledge not only make social and cultural life better, it also makes us spiritual the Minister added.
On the occasion Kumari Selja congratulated all teachers for their efforts in providing bright and able students to the society.
Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, an autonomous organization under the aegis of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, presents these awards, every year, to recognize and encourage the meritorious students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes for their commendable performance in Class 10th and Class 12th examinations. The award carries (i) a citation and (ii) cash award.
